More about La Otra Laboratoria

La Otra Laboratoria seeks to promote a better quality of life for trans people within Puerto Rico that allows their self-management and advocacy for community, fostering a collaborative environment where art is a propellant to maintain the necessary conversations and combat the systemic oppressions they experience daily.

They envision a society in which the trans community of Puerto Rico feels free, accepted and valued, where art is a powerful tool for freedom and self-determination and a future where La Otra Laboratoria is a beacon of creativity and activism, leading the cultural transformation and supporting trans people in the search for their voice and redefining their identities through art.

As a long-term goal, they seek to ensure that trans people have the power to be heard, to be in the spaces they want to be because they have the appropriate tools to reach them as their voices, experiences and narratives matter and go beyond what is known and what the general public perceives, managing to have a network of creatives, artists and cultural managers to create theatrical pieces, workshops, exhibitions and events on a larger scale as a collective.
