The Government of Puerto Rico has ordered a lockdown and curfew, closing nonessential services and businesses, and requiring people to stay at home.
Some entities and projects sponsored by HASER have continued operating to provide essential services under new safety and sanitation protocols.
Armonía en la Montaña
As part of the Communities Sustaining Agroecology (CSA) program, Armonía en la Montaña has been delivering food door-to-door. In the first three weeks of the lockdown, they delivered over 1,400 pounds of food grown at Tres Vidas farm in Aibonito and other farms in the area.
La Colmena Cimarrona
On the island municipality of Vieques, food and all kinds of supplies arrive by ferry, and it is common for products and fresh food to be scarce. La Colmena Cimarrona running the farm and supporting the availability and distribution of fresh and healthy crops through a network of farms. They are also collaborating in the preparation and delivery of hot meals for families in need.
Casa Pueblo
Casa Pueblo in Adjuntas has been broadcasting from its community radio to share reliable information about the coronavirus. They have taken to the airwaves a new educational initiative “Casa Pueblo — Universitario”, which features presenters from different universities.
