Projects in Alliance with Brigada Solidaria del Oeste
Brigada Solidaria del Oeste is a transfeminist organization, composed mostly of women and people from the LGBTTIQ+ community, that believes in direct participation in various initiatives for the defense of the rights and social well-being of communities in the southwest region of Puerto Rico. They accompany reconstruction processes, encourage mutual support, and raise awareness about how government systems make us precarious.
HASER and Brigada Solidaria del Oeste have joined forces to develop actions and strategies that promote solidarity, self-management, sustainability, and dignity of communities affected by natural disasters.
HASER provides Fiscal Sponsorship to the project for community development and social transformation.
HASER is a non-profit organization with tax exemption under sections 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code and Section 1101.01(a)(2)(B) of the “Internal Revenue Code for a New Puerto Rico”. Brigada Solidaria del Oeste was born in September 2017 when a group of solidarity people from the west and the diaspora convened to address the immediate needs of the communities in the aftermath of Hurricane María.
Brigada Solidaria del Oeste supports the empowerment of communities in their collective processes, promoting the self-sustainable development of communities through diverse human resources in order to achieve social, food, economic, and cultural sovereignty for a just, inclusive and equitable society.
From a perspective of mutual support, the recovery work of Brigada Solidaria del Oeste differs from other organizations by going beyond reconstruction, raising the spirit of solidarity in our town so that together we are more prepared as a community to face any adversity.
