Sisters Lydela and Michelle are artists and educators. They transformed their grandparents Nonó and Manuela’s home in San Antón, Carolina into a shared community space. “Patio Taller” is a theater, a sustainable garden, a place for cooking and artists’ residence.
Their artistic work is framed within the context of socioeconomic exclusion and the displacement of black communities in Puerto Rico. They work with the reality of their environment, local ancestral knowledge, the exchange of produce grown in the neighborhood and the reuse of materials found in the area to create artistic projects.
This project project is made possible in part by a grant from the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice.
